    PAST JOC EVENTS

    Sunday, Feb 12
JOC Indoor Rock Climbing led by Nathan T.
In its never ending quest to reach for new heights, the JOC went indoor rock climbing at the Manhattan Plaza Health Club on Sunday, February 12, 2006. Although NYC experienced a record snow fall, this did not stop the JOC, and the event went on as planned. JOC climbers braved the cold and wind and trudged through mountains of snow drifts to reach the warm confines of the climbing gym, and once they did, they were not disappointed. After climbers were outfitted with climbing shoes and harnesses, they were given a brief introduction to the basics of belaying and climbing and then the gravity defying fun began. Like spiders on a wall, JOC climbers ascended to the ceiling of the gym, and through sheer will power and determination, they managed to traverse a variety of hand and foot holds to reach their vertical limits. It may have taken snow shoes to get to the climbing gym, but everyone who participated truly made it to the top.

    Monday, February 20
Wawayanda hike led by Seth Minsk
140 fingers... 140 toes. We brought back everything we left with!
Temps started off at a bitter 25 degrees, but a brief way into our journey through Wawayands State Park, the temperatures climbed. Although we were prepared for 6 to 9 miles, upon re-checking the maps, we did a whopping 10.4 miles, including a stretch of the Appalachian Trail, two side trails to panoramic views over Sussex County farmland (and Action Park), and a footbridge over a snow and ice clogged creek that was so pretty we had to stop there twice.

    Saturday night, February 25
    Indoor Paintball!
On this fateful night, 25 JOCers showed that, indeed, Jews to know how to handle a gun. Diving over bunkers, and sliding into enemy territory, the attendees got their adrenaline pumping and kicked some butt. Of course, we all came away with some nice nickel sized welts as souvenirs... par for the course. Can't wait to do it again!
